Gates:
I would never use these gates again. The goats bang them around and then the panels come off and or the side frame breaks in half. I have three too many of these in the scrap heep.
A better option that I am going to try as I have to replace these gates... :-(
Cattle gates with rebar welded to the bottoms to make it goat proof and plywood added just like at the stock yard. I even saw a fence with metal post and rebar that I think I would use in the high impact areas. They destroy anything that gets between them. It doesn't matter if they could walk two feet and be on the same side of the fence. If there is something between two of them they are going to mash it.
Fence Post:
I would never use this type of fence post again. I can't tell you how many rotted off at the ground.
We are trying this type of post on the latest pasture.
Alley Ways:
This is what happens to the side of a metal building that the goats have access to in their alley way. Some goat's horns are red from rubbing and thumping on this wall. I would never have a metal sided barn or shed where the goats get up against it. They stress the metal so much the screws start to pop out and then the sharp edges of the metal become deadly. Over the years we have lost two goats to this kind of problem and have needed to doctor up three or four other goats. Also my supply cabnet where I keep all the powders and liquids used on the goats is on the other side of this wall. They pound it so much that they knock the cabnet doors open and things tumble out to the floor.
Odds and Ends:
This is an easy fix to keep the steers from going where I don't want them. I placed screws on the ends of the 2x4 so it doesn't slide out. It doesn't work for determined ponies.
Mineral Feeders:
This homemade mineral feeder works better than the ones made out of the white pipe. The black pipe is thicker so holds up better. Black bungie cords work great everywhere.
